UPDATE! The "new" BJ8
The new project we picked up is a 1965 BJ8 Phase 2 (early) 3000. The intreresting part is that hte car is an original Atlanta car sold by Hix Green BMC. There is still a metal dealer tag in the box of stuff that came with the car. We purchased the car from the second owner, Bill Campbell, of Woodstock, Ga. who had owned the car since 1970. An interesting aside is that Bill's daughter is married to former Atlanta Brave, Ron Gant, who lives close by. Bill had contacted the Club after seeing the brief TV spot on the Club that was shown on ch.11 last Sept. He was interested in turning the car over to a local Clubmember who could get the car on the road and keep it in the area. We looked the car over a couple of times before deciding on it . It looked rough from underneath but it turned out to be mostly in the floor sheetmetal. The car's frame is in very good condition especially considering the floorboards were like swiss cheese when the carpet was removed. There is a small hole on the top of the frame where the frame members come together as a "Y" near the transmission tunnel on the driver's side. ( This is very similar but not as bad as Scott Runkle's car for those who attended his tech sessions.) The condition of the rest of the car is really pretty good. The car was originally red but is now white. According to Bill it was white when he bought it. The engine turns out to be from a later car. Bill had said the engine was rebuilt in 1974 which is when we feel the switch was made. Most of the rest of the car looks like it has never been apart. The wiring is all intact and is surprising condition with almost all of the cloth covering intact.
